Today there are two birds with one stone. This is a dish called Majboos, which is the national dish of Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Depending on what you google, it might also be the national dish for Kuwait. It’s a chicken based dish, served with rice; and it uses a lot of spices to build flavour throughout the cooking process.
I don’t have a great deal to say about this dish, considering how much effort went into it, and the time it cook to source, measure and generally faff around with the spices, it was very middle of the road. It was tasty, but nothing about it was overly memorable.

It was a nice dinner, the recipe I used made about 4 portions, so Mr Jaynage was very happy about taking a couple to work for packed lunches. He’s very good at that, I don’t really like leftovers, which is really bad I know, but thankfully he laps them up, so we don’t have any wastage. He usually takes ‘leftover something’ for lunch in a recycled take away box, and is often the envy of his coworkers with lunches in the break room.
While it was a good dinner, but I won’t be making it again, it was a too much effort for something really quite average, when I compare it to other dishes like the Iranian chicken kebab, or my failed croissants.
So thanks Saudi Arabia and Qatar, you can keep your mediocre chicken dish, I won’t be revisiting this one.
