Christmas and gifting

I realise as I write this that I’m extremely lucky to be able to be this picky. I know this a privileged position to be in, but bear with me.

I find Christmas really tough, for no other reason that I really struggle for what I want for presents. I’m fortunate enough that if I want something, I can generally buy it for myself. That said, I’ve got fairly modest taste, so I’m not massively into expensive handbags or designer shoes, or really expensive make up, or gaming that requires ‘things’.

I always have a list, the list is always published to my family. Some items are really specific, a book that I want, or some specific baking item I need. The rest tends to be smellies.

So having reduced my present intake (thanks to a well thought out secret santa with my very nearest and dearest), I can really pare down what I want.

This year, in my ongoing mission to reduce my plastic usage, and to use more local independent businesses, I’m asking for soap, shampoo and conditioner bars. This will massively reduce my plastic use, and support local family owned businesses. I don’t know where shampoo is made, but it’s full of chemicals, packaged in plastic, and driven at least half way across the country. It’s one small step to being more sustainable, but there are loads of clichés about one small step, and every journey starting with a single step.

So there’s mine. What’s yours?
