During lockdown there have been things I’ve really missed. And one of those is culture. I’m not a massively ‘artsy’ person who regularly goes to the theatre, museums or galleries. I enjoy the occasional visit, much like I enjoy the occasional documentary. Being locked down with my husband has meant not really accessing any of those things.
The arts were also suffering, no visitors means no income, so when I got an email from the National Gallery suggesting I take out a membership, I did just that. The reason was twofold. I want to be able to access the gallery in future and didn’t want an iconic visitor attraction to go to the wall. Secondly, there was an exhibition I really wanted to see and I knew membership would give me better access to it, since I figured it was likely to sell out as everyone else sated their arts drought. I was right.
My newfound membership got me advance viewing when the gallery was only open to members, and it meant I got to the see exhibition I wanted to. I thought about going back, and I probably will, but it looks like it’s pretty much sold out the whole of July and a lot of August. September dates have yet to be realised. The exhibition was ‘Titian: Love, Desire and Death’. And it was fabulous.
